Did you know that approximately one out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators such as bees? Time for us then to be grateful that community group Wilding Wimborne is working hard locally to provide an environment in which they can thrive!
The Bee Home Trail, the latest in the monthly town trails being produced for Wimborne Town of Culture 2026, has been created by Wilding Wimborne and was announced by Town Crier Chris Brown and launched by Cllr Chris Ryan at the recent Spring on the Green event on the Minster Green.
The trail takes you on a walking tour of 15 bee homes around the town: locations include schools, business premises, churches and town attractions. The homes are hexagonal wooden boxes filled with hollow stems in which the bees lay their eggs. The bees using these homes are solitary bees: highly efficient pollinators accounting for over 90 per cent of the UK’s 270 bee species; they live alone, don’t produce honey and are non-aggressive.
Make a beeline Bee Home Trail postcards and leaflets are available in Allendale House, Fair Ground Shop and the Museum of East Dorset. To download the bee trail map (and see our other town trails) go to https://tinyurl.com/PWtrails
