The meeting scheduled for Saturday 27th June at the cemetery chapel has been postponed. A new date has not yet been set.
In May, Wimborne Town Council hosted an inaugural meeting of a new community group – The Friends of Wimborne Cemetery.
The new group hopes to provide opportunities for people to help care for the cemetery. Ideas suggested at the meeting included: history walks, wildlife surveys, engagement with schools and help with sensitive grounds management which could include more habitat creation.
Sensitively managed by the groundsperson and his team, the cemetery hosts a wealth of wildlife making it a beautiful place to reflect & remember. Oxeye daisies nod in the breeze while common blue butterflies ‘dance’ amongst the birds food trefoil. Some short grass areas even supports rare wax cap mushrooms. The headstones themselves are a library of local history which hold interesting stories of lives past.
