Wimborne War on Waste CIC (WWoW) is looking for a new Director. After nearly 10 years our amazing collegue Charley is stepping down. She has been part of WWoW since it started in 2017.
It was 2018 when Wimborne became the second town in Dorset to be awarded ‘Plastic Free Community’ status by Surfers Against Sewage. An amazing result in only a year.
As a volunteer-led group we continue to build on that success, working with businesses, organisations, schools and the community to support people to rethink and reduce waste including single use plastic in our town.
Well known for our regular community Litter Picks we use the information about what is collected to drive our projects. These have included ‘Bin Your Butt’ with Litter Free Dorset and the Reusable Wimborne Festival Cup with Planet Wimborne. In addition we have other groups that have been created, the main one being our wonderful Wimborne Repair Cafe. It is very much thanks to Charley that it has been so successful, saving waste from landfill and encouraging a culture of repair and fix rather than throw away. We also have the Bunting and Bags group that makes upcycled fabric bunting for the town each year and has made over 1000 bags for the Food Bank and independent shops. We continue to provide blister pack recycling, at the Fairground shop, thanks to donations from the community, and we offer cups, bunting and litter pickers as part of our free little Library of Things.
