No Mow May

From the RHS website:

If you want to encourage wildflowers in your lawn, try No Mow May. As the name suggests, you simply stop mowing in early May, which allows the wild plants already in your lawn to grow up and flower, adding colour and attracting pollinating insects and other wildlife. You can leave your whole lawn uncut or just a section.  community, or giving a second life to ingredients that most commonly go to waste

The Big Butterly Count

The Big Butterfly count is underway. One of the biggest citizen science events in the world. Our insects are in decline and this is a way you can help understand the current state of our butterflies. It is really easy. Take a cold drink into the garden or park and sit for 15 mins counting all the butterflies and day flying months you see. An easy to use guide is available at the website link below where you can record your sightings. So east yet so important.

Solitary Bee Week

Solitary Bee Week  - about raising awareness for the solitary bees.

With over 240 species in the UK, they make up 90% of the bee population and along with other pollinating animals are responsible for one third of all the food we eat. However, like our honeybees and bumblebees, they are under threat and need our help.

National Moth Week

National Moth Week
Moths are among the most diverse and successful organisms on earth.
Scientists estimate there are 150,000 to more than 500,000 moth species.
Their colours and patterns are either dazzling or so cryptic that they define camouflage. Shapes and sizes span the gamut from as small as a pinhead to as large as an adult’s hand.
Most moths are nocturnal, and need to be sought at night to be seen – others fly like butterflies during the day.
