The Historic Town Trail will be launched in Gullivers Bookshop on Saturday 14th March by Chris Brown (Town Crier), Councillor Jeff Hart (Mayor), Neil Smith (Planet Wimborne Trustee) and Malcolm Angel (owner of Gullivers Bookshop).
Wimborne has a rich and colourful past and the historic town trail will take you to meet some of the most important people and buildings that have played their part in making this so. The accessible trail is based on 12 green plaques (local importance) dotted around the town, with the bonus of a blue plaque (national importance) showing where Thomas Hardy lived during his time in the town. You can start the route at any point.
Planet Wimborne has produced a postcard and leaflet about the trail and these will be available, after the launch, from various outlets around the town, including the Museum of East Dorset. and on our website.
Each month Planet Wimborne, together with the Town Council and Wimborne BID, is launching a trail to show off different aspects of the town as part of the Town of Culture 2026. January and February saw the launch of the Music and Pre-loved trails, and forthcoming ones will highlight bee homes and trees. Details of the previous trails are on our website: https://planetwimborne.org/projects/wimborne-town-trails/
Post launch note: This trail has been added to https://planetwimborne.org/projects/wimborne-town-trails/ and can be downloaded from https://tinyurl.com/PWtrails.
